After buying the Glowforge laser cutter for my 2020 Christmas Magnets I had a flurry of new ideas basically mimicking the same process. The first one came in the form of the Divine Beasts from the latest game in the Zelda series, Breath of the Wild. From the Zelda wiki page I was able to find 4 SVG files for each of the beasts. This helped greatly as SVG files are easily imported into Adobe Illustrator which is how I’ve been working on the files to laser cut. Similar to the dumpster files I split parts of the sketches into layers and designed a border and back plate to attach magnets onto.
I attempted both engraving and scoring the black portion of the acrylic and as the image above shows there are slight artifacts of the engraving process leaving the horizontal streaks that the scored pieces do not have. I actually completed this project before the dumpster magnets as it helped show me what sort of process would be most efficient for mass producing these pieces.
