Halloween 2020

It may be the year of virtual parties but damnit we can still dress up for Halloween! Being busy with a few other projects while wanting to try and embrace a more pandemic (read: mask) vibe I gave it some thought and decided on a breaking bad costume, the boiler suits used by Jesse and Walt while they ran “Vamonos Pest” to mask their meth lab cooking in Season 3. It was a very fast and easy project with amazing results. Finding and printing out a few different logos I found I taped them up in a layered sandwich of:
<Top>
-Print Out
-Painters Tape
-Wax Paper
<Bottom>

Then with an xacto knife (other hobby knives are available) I cut out multiple copies of each pattern representing which color layer there would be. Noticing the logos were a simple 2 color design with the lighter color (yellow) at the bottom I kept all the yellow patterns to have the entire opening on them giving a better coverage and not requiring precise paint laying for the upper green layer. After everything was cut I started with the bottom yellow pattern and taped it down onto the boiler suit. Using way too much painter tape to prevent overspray (which still happened) I used my airbrush to layer as many light coats as I could. Thankfully I could see the paint drying into the individual fibers of the fabric instead of clumping up on top. This gave the final product a much better look of silk screening vs an iron-on. Finishing the back I moved to the smaller, but more visible front part. I got the top green oval shifted off center but I think the look is pretty good showing the hand painted design of it. For a quick pandemic halloween costume I am very happy and might even wear it again the next year. After going though 1 wash the pattern slightly faded but still looks true!
